Progressive tax will wait until the campaign ends

The referendum campaign postponed the debate that was to be held this summer regarding the introduction of a progressive tax, announced for January 1st next year. This was confirmed by Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, who at a press conference stressed that the tax reform was actually postponed due to the campaign because if conducted under such conditions, it would be suppressed.

Zaev noted that he can not say with certainty whether from January 1st this reform will come into force, emphasizing that if there is not enough time, they will not rush it. He added that one of the conditions for this tax reform is to give enough time for the preparation of the economy and the citizens.

– We have actually postponed the tax reform. It would have been in the shadows, insufficiently transparent, at a moment when the debate on the referendum is so open. We planned to open the plans at the beginning of the summer, to debate in the summer, to take decisions in September, but the agreement with Greece was made, which showed the need to make a decision to postpone the debate, because very few citizens and business people will have heard about the need for such a tax reform – said Zaev.

He announced that the debate will continue after the referendum in order for citizens to be properly informed about this tax reform.

– Fair taxation for me is something that helps the fairness of the whole society, ie those who have more to pay more, those who have less to pay less – the prime minister added.
