Defense staff demand a 10% pay rise

The Security and Defense Union (DSU) voiced the revolt of the employees of the Ministry of Defense and the ARM due to, as they pointed out, disregarding and reducing the workers’ rights of the employees. On January 22, the Government issued a decree on the termination of the importance of the decree determining specific specialties of great significance to the ARM. This means that the right to salary allowance provided for in Article 153 of the Law on Service in the ARM has been abolished.
– We demand an increase of the salary in the Ministry of Defense and the ARM of at least 10 percent, and an increase in the daily allowance for duty, guard, field, securing the state border, etc. from the current 610 MKD for 25 hours of engagement to eight percent of the average net salary ie around 2.000 denars, said the head of the Defense Union, Risto Ajtov.
The DSU announced that if the reduction and disrespect of the rights to employment in the area of allowances and salary continue, the union will submit lawsuits to the competent courts.
As they said at yesterday’s press conference, among other things, the Ministry of Defense has not paid wage allowances for long period of time, such as holiday allowance, weekend work, shifts, night work, overtime work, work travel costs, and an additional salary if the employee accomplishes more than 150 hours overtime during the year.
