‘Avgi’: Name agreement to be endorsed by larger parliamentary majority

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini seem to support the need for parliamentary endorsement of a possible name agreement by a larger majority, reads Greek daily “Avgi”.
The paper claims that Athens has received advice and recommendation from Brussels to increase the majority required for a ‘green light’ to the possible agreement from 151 to 180 MPs.

“According to credible sources, the Greek government has received recommendations and advice to support the possible name agreement by a 180-strong majority. The common denominator of these recommendations is to secure broad political and parliamentary legitimacy. This is, it seems, supported by Juncker and Mogherini,” reads the paper and adds that the Athens-Skopje agreement would otherwise have no future, especially due to the stance of the Greek opposition.
