Appellate Court cancels 9-year prison sentence for Gjoko Popovski


The first-instance judgment in Special Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) case Trista (Three Hundred) has been cancelled and the case will be retried, decided the Skopje-based Appellate Court on Wednesday.

Former Assistant Interior Minister Gjoko Popovski was sentenced on May 22nd to 9 years in prison for abuse of office and damages to the budget in the amount of EUR 453,570 in the process of procurement of 300 vehicles for the Ministry of Interior, when he enabled several companies to be selected in the bidding procedure, although they had not submitted the lowest.

Gjoko Popovski has been transferred from the Idrizovo prison to the Skopje investigative prison since the Appellate Court ordered his detention.
