SPO urges extension of mandate to focus on high-profile corruption

Special Public Prosecutor Katica Janeva urged Tuesday for extension of its mandate beyond 2020 in the framework of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and focus on high-profile corruption.

“The Special Prosecutor’s Office’s (SPO) mandate has not expired and that is why we are certain that measures will be undertaken to implement the Government’s strategy of judicial reforms”, Janeva told a press conference.

She stressed that the SPO would file other indictments if competent institutions found ways to extend its mandate.

Janeva also saluted the Appellate Court decision over the use of wiretapped conversations as evidence in court proceedings.

In addition, she said SPO has taken over cases “Skopje 2014”, “Aktor” and “Cosmos” from the Skopje public prosecutor’s office for organized crime and corruption
