Dimitrov and Kotzias to meet Nimetz in Athens on May 12

The foreign ministers of Macedonia and Greece and the UN name envoy, Matthew Nimetz, will hold a fresh meeting on May 12 in Athens, MIA’s Athens correspondent has learned.

Ministers Nikola Dimitrov and Nikos Kotzias will meet with the UN mediator a day after the conference slated to take place next Friday in Sounio, Greece.

Speaking at a news conference today after the ministerial meeting in Thessaloniki, FM Kotzias said that a couple of main issues remained to be solved and that he discussed alternatives and variations for a name solution with his Macedonian counterpart.

“I believe that today we have come up with many alternatives, we didn’t reach a decision, and we will have to inform our premiers about this. If we decided upon these alternatives, conditions would be ripe to organize high-level meetings. It is, however, not up to the foreign ministers to decide this, it is up to their chiefs. As soon as we make the steps – and I hope we will make them – they can contact each other and schedule their meetings themselves. But, I believe we have to fight till the end in order to find this solution,” stated Kotzias.
