Deskoska: We still haven’t received response from Hungary for Gruevski’s extradition

The Ministry of Justice has not yet received response regarding extradition request for fugitive former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski from the competent ministry in Hungary, Justice Minister Renata Treneska Deskoska said at Sunday’s press conference.

“The proper deadlines for response have not expired. We will wait, if we do not receive response within the deadlines, we will issue an urgent extradition. These are the standard procedures that are being implemented. Thus far, Hungary has never refused to extradite any person. The last extradition happened in September 2018 and they did not make any remarks either for conducting court proceedings, for the condition in the prisons or for existence of any risk in Macedonia. I hope that we will receive response from Hungarian authorities,” Deskoska said at a press conference with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, promoting a new law on reduction of misdemeanor penalties.

Former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski fled to Hungary and was granted political asylum, to avoid serving a two-year jail sentence in ‘Tank’ case related to illicit purchase of a luxury Mercedes.
