Confirmed detention for Cavkov

The Skopje Appellate Court rejected the appeal and upheld the decision of the Basic Court Skopje 1, by which former Interior Minister Mitko Cavkov remains in detention in the Skopje-based investigative prison in Suto Orizari. The second-instance court also dismissed Cavkov’s request for a guarantee to be able to defend himself since it was incomplete.

Cavkov, along with his former colleagues from the Interior Ministry, Dusko Lazarov, Mitko Pesov and Oliver Popovski, as well as Goran Gjosevski from the security of the former parliamentary speaker Trajko Veljanoski, were taken back to Sutka one day after filing the charge for the “Bloody Thursday” case. Two days earlier, the Supreme Court, having acted on their appeals, ordered house arrest.
