Pavle Bogoevski resigns as Member of Parliament

Committee on Rules of Procedure and Mandatory and Immunity Issues chairman Pavle Bogoevski has handed in his resignation as Member of Parliament today.

Bogoevski announced his resignation during a session of the Committee, saying it would become effective following the plenary session of Parliament during which Nikola Gruevski is to be stripped of his post as MP.

Bogoevski’s resignation comes after a public outcry over a released recording of a conversation he had. Following this, the opposition accused him of breaking the code of ethics, describing him as unworthy of being an MP.
The MP told MIA he had already handed in his resignation ahead of the parliamentary session that is to be held today, regardless of whether Gruevski’s announced resignation would only be confirmed during the session or the Parliament would vote to strip Gruevski of his post as MP. Bogoevski said he would hold a press conference in Parliament later in the day.
The 102 parliamentary session was running late, and therefore, postponed for 12:30h, the Parliament Speaker’s Office said in a press release. It was postponed due to the Speaker’s meeting with the Czech PM. Following similar previous examples and experiences, it is expected that Gruevski’s resignation would be confirmed, according to Parliament’s sources. Stripping Gruevski of his post as MP requires two-thirds majority vote, which lacks at the moment.
