“Made in Macedonia” is an option for Greek products as well

After the verification of the agreement signed by Macedonia and Greece, the Greek producers will have a period of three years to decide whether they will declare their products as “Made in Macedonia” or “Made in Greece”.

In the Agreement, as explained by Prime Minister Zoran Zaev at the Economic Chamber of Macedonia, the right to non-exclusion on this issue has been defined. If we do not agree and settle on this issue, it does not mean that the Agreement is invalid.

According to Zaev, we have no problem whether “Made in Macedonia” will be written for the region of Macedonia or the country of Macedonia.

– These aspirations don’t take away our right. The final goal is within three years of the verification of the agreement, the two countries to discuss it, as perhaps some Greek producers may want to use “Made in Macedonia” and here we have agreed on the right to non-exclusiveness. We have no problem whether “Made in Macedonia” will be written for the region of Macedonia, or for our Macedonia, as a state. However, a period of three years has been allowed to give Greek businesses the chance to have their own determination. If they decide to have “Made in Macedonia” on their products, that is open for discussion for them, because it excludes “Made in Greece”, explained Zaev.

Greek producers will decide on their own, but this will be agreed with the consent from the Macedonian side.

– They will decide on their own, but it will be agreed with our consent, of course. Until then, nobody takes away our right. If we do not agree and settle agree on this issue, it does not mean that the Agreement is not valid. We remain with the origin of “Made in Macedonia” or “Product of Macedonia”, but I believe it was important to give them the opportunity for three years, for the producers in Greece to declare themselves, said the Prime Minister, explaining the Agreement with Greece.
