Members of Anti-Corruption under investigation for corruption

The Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office Skopje opened a case for an appeal by the members of the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption for misuse of budget funds.

-The Prosecutor’s Office undertakes actions for determining the facts in the case, for collecting data and necessary documentation from the Public Revenue Office and other relevant institutions – as informed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The audit of the Public Revenue Office found irregularities in the work of the Anti-Corruption Commission, where its members unintentionally spent budget funds. The audit report concluded that members of the Commission were paid travel expenses for the sessions, and the payment was made on the basis of unreliable travel orders. Then, some of them did not come to work at all, but only on sessions, and they were submitted for three road orders for the same day. The SDSM party’s demanded the resignation of the members of the Commission, and if they do not, announce an initiative for their dismissal, within the framework of Parliament.
According to SDSM vice-president Frosina Remenski, members of the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption no longer have professional and ethical credibility to perform this function even a day longer.
“For those reasons, if they do not submit an urgent and irrevocable resignation, in the Assembly of Macedonia, as a body competent for the election of the members of this body, we will initiate a procedure for their dismissal. There will be no tolerance for corruptive and wasteful behavior of any institution and any official in the country,” Remenski said.
The government responded to the case, from which they also demand responsibility from the members of the Anti-Corruption Commission.
– The government follows the principle of zero tolerance for corruption. In the past seven months, we have demonstrated that there is no tolerance for the appointed officials who have shown irresponsible spending of the citizens’ money, and all those who have been identified have taken responsibility. At the same time, the Government has repeatedly pointed out that the responsible spending of the budget money should be respected by all public officials, as was the case with the State Election Commission. We expect that the members of the Anti-Corruption Commission will follow the principle of zero tolerance for corruption and will show responsibility, having in mind the recent developments and taking into account that this is the essence of their work – say the Government of Macedonia.
