Zaev: The pardons are over

North Macedonia’s Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said no more pardons would granted by either Parliament or the president of the country.

“The pardons are over,” PM Zaev said in response to a question whether President Ivanov could pardon any of the former high officials from VMRO-DPMNE and DUI indicted by the Special Prosecutor’s Office.

“The pardons granted by Parliament for April 27 were in the spirit of reconciliation, and I stand behind them. But, Parliament can’t offer any new pardons. Neither can the Ministry of Justice or any other institution. Not even President Gjorge Ivanov. The laws say so. Read them, and you’ll see he has no such option available to him,” said PM Zaev.
