Russia recognizes official name of North Macedonia


Russia recognized  country under its constitutional name – the Republic of North Macedonia, Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday.

Press release of the Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads that on February 18, Macedonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a note to the Russian Embassy in Skopje informing that the official name of the state has been changed to the Republic of North Macedonia.

“The Russian Federation recognized that country under its new name – the Republic of North Macedonia,” reads the press release.

Nevertheless, the parliament of Macedonia approved on 11 January amendments to the constitution that would change the country’s name. The Greek parliament ratified the agreement on 25 January.
