Romania and Lithuania to ratify North Macedonia’s NATO Accession Protocol, Belgium to ratify by the end of the year

Today, Romania’s Parliament is expected to ratify the protocol for the accession of the Republic of North Macedonia in the NATO.

This session will also be attended by Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi, who arrived in Romania on Tuesday for a work visit.

From Bucharest, Xhaferi will travel to Vilnius, Lithuania to be present during the ratification of this protocol by the Lithuanian parliament.

On February 6, NATO member countries signed a protocol for the accession of North Macedonia in the Alliance. Once all 29 member countries of the Alliance ratify this protocol, then North Macedonia will be offered full membership in this organization.

So far, the protocol has been ratified by six NATO member countries. The first one to do this was Greece, then it was Slovenia, Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia and Montenegro.

North Macedonia’s NATO Accession Protocol should also be ratified by the Belgian Parliament by the end of this year, but precise deadlines are still missing, said the Belgian Foreign Ministry.
