New protests in Skopje in defense of the name

Several thousand protesters came out again yesterday in the center of Skopje – in a protest for the name. With waving flags and banners “We do not give the name,” they demanded the cancellation of the negotiations for resolving the name dispute with Greece.

The protestors said that the country had incompetent diplomacy and demanded admission to international organizations under its constitutional name.
The organizers of the movement “Our name is our right” have read the letter from the association of Macedonian emigrants – United Macedonian Diaspora, condemning the process of negotiations, the procedure for adopting the law on languages and the agreement with Bulgaria. The Diaspora also demands early parliamentary elections in the country.

Demonstrators say they are dissatisfied with policies that jeopardize the national interests of the Macedonian people, and that they do not want to join NATO and the EU if the name needs to change.

Organizers of the protests in Skopje distanced themselves from the burning of the photograph of Macedonian Prime Minister at the demonstrations in Australia. According to them, these are provocateurs who want to cause an incident. The only goal of the protests, as they say, is to indicate that the dialogue between Macedonia and Greece is destructive.
