Air pollution causes 1469 deaths in the period 2015-2016


Air pollution in the period 2015-2016 has caused 1469 deaths in Macedonia. These are the findings of the European Environment Agency. The report prepared by the European Commission suggests that along with Kosovo, Serbia, Bulgaria and Hungaria, Macedonia has one of the highest death rates caused by pollution.

In 2015, the rate of deaths caused by pollution in Macedonia was 28,7 per 100 people, while this rate in European countries was 13,9 people.

Deputy minister of Environment, Hani Makraduli said that these figures are old and that the level of pollution has gone down thanks to numerous measures which have been taken.

The most polluted cities in Macedonia are Skopje, Tetovo, Manastir, Gostivar, Kercova and Kumanovo.
