Ademi: We do not intend to force anyone in the diaspora to vote

We do not intend to force anyone in the diaspora to vote at elections, said Minister for the Diaspora Edmond Ademi on Wednesday.

“The right to vote is guaranteed for all citizens of North Macedonia and those living abroad. Unlike the past, when ambassadors were dragged from door to door in order to register voters, this Government has a different approach and does not intend to force people to vote,” Minister Ademi told reporters.

He presented the National Strategy for Cooperation with the Diaspora 2019-2023, which is expected to enhance the institutional, economic and cultural cooperation with emigrants.

The strategy has been developed in discussions with diaspora organizations, NGOs and experts. An action plan for its implementation has also been adopted.

“These are the first documents that aim to establish institutional cooperation with the diaspora since the country’s independence. They represent the foundations for institutional networking of the state and the diaspora, instead of the past efforts of promoting a partisan diaspora,” said Minister Ademi.
