Tzanakopoulos: It would be a waste to lose this great chance

The Greek government closely follows what is happening in the neighboring country and supports efforts made to press ahead with the process, because it would be a waste if this chance were to be lost, says government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos.

“There are political options that can be realized by Mr. Zaev, which might allow a constitutional revision. But, at the moment, I don’t want to comment on the political developments in the country. There is a strong political power in the neighboring country that has pledged to make efforts with every means available to meet the important preconditions, i.e. revision of the Constitution, a move we welcome and praise. We closely follow and support this major effort in the whole process to press ahead and not to lose this great chance, because it would be a waste,” Tzanakopoulos said in an interview with a Greek radio station.

Reiterating throughout the interview that he didn’t want to comment on political developments in Macedonia, the spokesman said that Zaev had vowed he wouldn’t quit trying for the Prespa Agreement to enter into force, MIA’s Athens correspondent reports.

“What we are left to see is the timeline for implementing the preconditions, namely the constitutional revision, which is the main condition for Greece to move ahead with ratifying the agreement before entering into force,” said Tzanakopoulos.
