Ohrid Summit – Zaev: North Macedonia has no alternative to EU

North Macedonia and the entire region have no other alternative but European Union membership, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said Sunday at a news conference in Ohrid after the second meeting as part of the regional cooperation initiative.

“Almost two days ago, we were all in Geneva where we had the chance to learn from France’s top officials that the country doesn’t oppose EU enlargement and doesn’t offer an alternative to our bid for full-fledged membership into the EU. North Macedonia has no alternative to EU, I believe that the whole region has no other alternative but EU accession.”

“What we are doing today is making efforts to use all the potentials and opportunities at our disposal and improve the quality of living conditions in the region,” stressed Zaev.

He said he hoped the initiative would be sending a positive signal to the EU countries to motivate them to accelerate the process of integration of the region into the bloc.

“I believe that we deserve it and that what we’re doing now is for the benefit of the entire region, but I also believe it benefits the European Union,” concluded PM Zaev.
