New border crossings between North Macedonia and Greece

The Greek parliament’s committee on national defense and foreign affairs endorsed Tuesday the draft-laws on the opening of new border crossings Majden and Markova Noga with North Macedonia.

The laws also incorporate the transformation of the Liaison Office in Skopje into an Embassy and the Bitola-based Office for Consular, Economic and Commercial Affairs into a General Consulate. The draft-laws arise from the agreements signed in Skopje this March and April.

The Parliament’s plenary session discussing the laws could be held as soon as Wednesday afternoon.

Alternate Foreign Minister Sia Anagnostopoulou told the committee session that the laws are not adopted for election purposes but at the request of the local population in the vicinity of the border crossings.
