Greek government refuses to speculate over media reports in name dispute

Athens, 10 January 2018 – Greek government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos has refused to engage in speculations over reports by Albanian media on an agreement for a change of Macedonia’s name into ‘Republic of New Macedonia’, reads daily Kathimerini.

“We are not interested in rife speculation regarding the name talks, but to proceed with negotiations in a serious manner so that we can find a solution within the next few months to a problem that has been dogging us for 25 years,” said Tzanakopoulos.

He added that a window of opportunity has presented itself, referring to fresh efforts by United National special mediator Matthew Nimetz to rekindle talks after a change of government in Skopje.
