Greek Deputy FM: Greek textbooks will include the name ‘North Macedonia’

School textbooks in Greece will include the new name ‘North Macedonia’ of the neighboring country as set forth in the Prespa Agreement,  said Deputy Foreign Minister Markos Bolaris in a written reply to a query from the opposition New Democracy MPs.

Greek MPs Giorgos Koumoutsakos and Niki Kerameus have asked the Deputy Foreign Minister whether Greek textbooks contain any irredentist references, to which he replied negatively.

“As a member state of the UN, the EU, UNESCO, the Council of Europe, and OSCE, Greece firmly adheres to the principles of non-violence in the relations between the countries, the principles of good-neighborliness, of inviolability of borders and preventing hate speech in the Greek textbooks,” Bolaris said. “Accordingly, the textbooks used in Greece don’t contain any irredentist/revisionist references, as mentioned in Article 8, paragraph 5 of the Prespa Agreement.”
