Former UBK director Mijalkov in detention for the Target case


 On the request of the Special Prosecution Office (SPO) the Skopje Criminal Court has ordered a 30-day detention for the former Director of the Administration for Security and Counterintelligence (UBK), Saso Mijalkov.

The detention measure is ordered under the ‘Target-Fortress’ case, SPO said.

Former UBK officials Goran Grujevski and Nikola Boskoski, former minister of interior Gordana Jankuloska, Mijalkov and his cabinet chief Toni Jakimovski are indicted in this case related to the illegal wiretapping and destruction of surveillance equipment.

According to the indictment, 4,286 phone numbers were under illegal surveillance in the course of 2008-2015, for which court orders had not been issued. Communications were also under surveillance prior to the issuance or after the end of the validity of court orders for 1,541 telephone numbers. Over 20,000 citizens were wiretapped during the aforementioned period.
