FM Dimitrov attends informal meeting at WEF in Davos

Macedonia’s Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov attended Thursday an informal meeting within the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, dubbed ‘Identity, Integration and Migration’.

The meeting, which brought together heads of government, ministers and senior officials of international organizations, was chaired by Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland.

The experience with the migrant, refugee crisis and economic migration from Western Balkan countries has shown that the region’s EU-integration is also an imperative for EU itself, Dimitrov told the gathering.

He also notified that economic progress of the countries in the region ‘is our common obligation’, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.

At the WEF sidelines, Dimitrov held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Albania, Switzerland and Spain, Ditmir Bushati, Ignazio Cassis and Alfonso Dastis, Montenegrin Minister for European Affairs Aleksandar Pejovic and MEP Marietje Schaake.

Dimitrov briefed Dastis about the activities of Macedonia’s government for realization of its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations and asked for Spanish support to that effect.

Dimitrov and Cassis shared opinions on the bilateral cooperation and the Swiss support for further development of Macedonia’s democracy and economy.

Dimitrov meetings with Bushati and Pejovic were focused on the new EU enlargement strategy, which is to be revealed in early February.

Dimitrov is also scheduled to meet Freedom House President Michael Abramowitz and brief him about the current developments in Macedonia – ongoing reform processes and activities for further democratization of the country.
