Dimitrov: Start of the accession talks – incentive for the EU to sustain the country’s European story

We have a date with destiny on October 15, when I hope we will launch the EU accession negotiations. We have been a candidate country for 14 years, we have lost an entire generation, and we needed leadership to realize that things can happen by hard work and struggle, said Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov in his address at Western Balkans Summit organized by The Economist in Skopje.

“After solving the unsolvable and considering the trend of obvious changes, the start of the accession negotiations will be an incentive also for the EU to sustain the country’s European story,” said the country’s foreign minister.

Dimitrov added that a positive decision would be a win-win situation for North Macedonia, its neighbors and the EU in general.

“If this fails to materialize, the EU risks losing its credibility in the process, but also its influence,” said Dimitrov.
