Bakoyannis: Reduced perspectives for a solution
The perspectives for seriously resolving the name dispute are rapidly decreasing, Greece’s former foreign minister Dora Bakoyannis said, in an interview with the Real Fm radio station, the Greek government had a real chance to solve the problem, but with the way it operated the issue, now leads to an impasse.
– I want to be clear that the opportunity could be used and we would have a positive result if we had a serious government. At this point, we have a government majority divided into three parts, Bakoyannis said.
According to her, one of the main mistakes of the current Greek government is the position of the coalition partner Panos Kammenos and the decision not to create a national strategy along with the other parties. The result, as Bakoyannis said, was that the Greeks do not have the confidence in Tsipras to negotiate, but also to involve third parties.
– It was also used by other forces, read: the Turks got in the middle and encouraged the Skopians not to make concessions on basic issues such as the Constitution, which is a prerequisite, and the result today is that we have a rise in nationalism in both Greece and FYROM and of course the perspectives for a serious resolution of the issue are rapidly decreasing, added the former head of Greek diplomacy, and now a New Democracy MP in an interview with Greek radio.
