30-day detention for Janakieski and Bozinovski

Mile Janakieski, former minister of transport and communications,  and Kiril Bozinovski, former government secretary-general,  have been detained and transferred to the Sutka prison, the Ministry of Interior said.

Both were detained early on Wednesday upon an order issued by the Criminal Court at the request of the Special Prosecutor’s Office.

Janakieski and Bozinovski are indicted in several SPO cases that are currently being tried.

The detention follows after the flight of former PM Nikola Gruevski to Hungary, where he has applied for political asylum. Gruevski was scheduled to report to prison for the purpose of serving a two-year sentence for case Tank. The Ministry of Interior has issued an international arrest warrant for the former VMRO-DPMNE president.

The detention of the defendants in the Titanic case, Mile Janakieski and Kiril Bozhinovski, was requested because yesterday the Special Public Prosecutor’s Office (СPО) received information that they are preparing to escape in the same way as the former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, explained prosecutor Lile Stefanova at the beginning of today’s hearing for the Titanic case.

– We received information yesterday that not only Gruevski was on the run, but also Janakieski and Bozhinovski were preparing to escape in the same way, Stefanova said.
