Xhaferi will not sign the language law twice

There are options to remove the impasse over the law on the use of languages and they are currently analyzed, said Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi on Thursday.

“The most acceptable option should be implemented,” Xhaferi told a press briefing, saying he would not sign the law twice so that it is published in the Official Gazette.

President Gjorge Ivanov has said he would not sign the degree on promulgation of the law on the use of languages, despite the constitutional provision obliging him to do this.

According to Xhaferi, the release of VMRO-DPMNE MPs from detention over the April 27 incidents in the Parliament has eliminated any arguments for the opposition not to take part in the Parliament’s work and expects the party to return to the institution next week.

The Speaker said a meeting within the Jean Monnet process involving parliamentary political parties might be held in Ohrid on May 17-19, focusing on the amendments to the Parliament’s Rules of Procedures, the code of ethics and other issues.
