Will the Albanians lose a parliamentary group?

Both Besa wings are awaiting the court decision over which one will retain the name, which will have to form a new party under a new name. If the events take place in this direction, knowing the fact that this party has five MPs in the Parliament, three MPs from the Skopje wing and two from the Tetovo wing, in that case the Albanians will lose a parliamentary group. Until the court decision is announced, both wings refuse to comment on what will happen to the five MPs. The Tetovo-Besa vice president, Abdus Demiri, thinks that now, formally and legally, those MPs belong to Kasami’s party.

“Officially, the five MPs in the legislature are part of the Besa movement with President Bilal Kasami. The leader of the party ask one of them not to be part of the party in writing, but formally and legally the MPs are part of our party. When one of them asks to leave, or when the other wing forms a new party, then things will change,” said Vice President of Tetovo’s Besa, Abdus Demiri.

The spokesman for Skopje’s Besa Orhan Murtezani did not have anything specific to add on the topic.  He only confirmed that, for the time being, the five MPs in the Assembly function as one parliamentary group of the Besa movement.
“We have been told earlier that as long as one of the five MPs does not make another decision, they will continue to function as a parliamentary group. We are currently waiting for the final epilogue of the trial. As long as this process continues, we cannot comment on this topic,” Murtezani said.
Regarding this situation, political analysts have different opinions. In a statement for Nezavisen/Independent, Alaydin Demiri predicts that because of the absence of political logic, the Besa movement moves toward complete disappearance from the political scene.

“There is no way out of this situation, if a new parliamentary group is formed in the Assembly between the Skopje Besa and the two MPs of DPA, it will be only a formality and there will be no bigger political capacity. I am saying this because Besa proved that it is not a political party but a joint stock company that wants to profit from the political situation. It seems as if they are not interested in politics. This is the moment when they will try to get something out of it, and there is no political logic in their actions. This party will disappear because there are no people, a base or an idea. It is a profile of people who are led by clan interests,” Demiri said.

On the other hand, Albert Musliu believes that if one of the two Besa wings forms a new party, then it will depend on the creativity of the Members of Parliament, since the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly give different possibilities in such cases in order to retain the parliamentary group.
“There is a way out because they can function as two different ethnicities in one parliamentary group. They can achieve the number of five MPs through cooperation with other political parties, so this is a technical matter. I believe that they will be creative enough in this context and that their presence will be noticed through the presence in various committees in the Assembly,” Musliu said.
