Verushevski wins 42.000 EUR in damages over the “Coup” case

Former intelligence officer Zoran Verushevski will be awarded €42,000 in damages by the state, the Skopje-based Civil Court has decided.
Verushevski sued the state for emotional distress and loss of reputation and freedom after spending 344 days in detention over the case codenamed ‘Coup’.
Verushevski, who is PM Zoran Zaev’s aide for national security, initially sought €71,000 in damages from the state.
The ‘Coup’ case was opened in January 2015 by the former government when Zaev, then leader of the opposition, had started releasing the so-called ‘bombs’ of illegally wiretapped telephone conversations.
