US Assistant Secretary Wess Mitchell visits Skopje

US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell arrives in Skopje on Tuesday, as part of his Balkan tour.

During the visit, Mitchell will meet Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov.

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said yesterday that the US official’s visit to Skopje is just a confirmation of their friendship, and also an expression of support to the Euro-Atlantic integration processes of Macedonia.

“One of Macedonia’s main strategic goals is NATO and Macedonia is literally a step closer to joining NATO. It could be immensely beneficial. We will discuss cooperation of the two countries and also our NATO perspectives. We are also supported on our journey to the EU, because the organization is also a strategic partner,” Zaev stated.

Foreign Minister Dimitrov said the name dispute would also be on the agenda of the talks.

“I believe we’ll address the issue at the beginning of the meeting,” Dimitrov said. “It will be a good opportunity to inform him about the dynamics of the name dispute resolution process.”

Besides Macedonia, Mitchell’s tour also includes visits to Kosovo, Serbia, Greece and Cyprus.
