Tsipras’s partner visits Zorba’s grave

Betty Baziana, domestic partner of Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, who accompanied him on his first official visit to Skopje, visited the grave of the famous Greek Georgios Zorba, who was buried at the Butel cemetery in Skopje. The visit to Zorba’s grave was within the program of Tsipras’ partner, but this was done discreetly.

Georgios Zorba lived in Skopje for two decades and was one of the most famous Bohemian figures before the Second World War. He died in 1941. His life was an inspiration for the great Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis and his novel “Life and Times of Alexis Zorbas”, which was later made into a film called Zorba the Greek” starring Anthony Quinn as the title character.
