SPO takes over ‘Monster’ case

The Special Public Prosecution (SPO) has established subject matter jurisdiction over the ‘Monster’ case involving the killing of five men near Skopje in April, 2012.

“We hope we will be ready to present it before the court at a hearing in April,” chief special public prosecutor Katica Janeva told a news conference on Wednesday.

On 12 April 2012, on the eve of Orthodox Easter, four boys in their late teens and a fisherman were killed nearby Smilkovsko Lake.

Six men were sentenced to life imprisonment for their involvement in the massacre.

After a court overturned the verdict, the Supreme Court in December 2017 released four men and ordered precautionary measures. Two men are still at large. International warrants have been issued for their arrest.
