Spasovski: Elections will not prolong the vetting process

The process of vetting the police is underway. The model has been selected, a working group has been set up to work on whether to move to a new law or amend the legal solutions. It should be completed by the beginning of next year and then the review will start.

This was stated by Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski during his visit to Valandovo, assessing that early parliamentary elections will not prolong the process.

– Vetting is not just an announcement. The process started at the Ministry of Interior. The vetting process is not just a start when staff checks start. Vetting process involves choosing the model. That is what we have accomplished, that is, to make a foreground how this vetting will be done, to choose the model, to adjust the legislation. We have established a working group that will work on exactly that part – whether we will go with a new law, amend existing legislation, bylaws. Based on when that legal framework will be formed, and it has deadlines that should be defined, sometime early next year, and after that the review will start, said Spasovski.

The recently detected group of migrants is neither the first nor the last. We are working continually on uprooting migrant smuggling and human trafficking, said Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski on Wednesday.

He told reporters in Valandovo that detection of migrant smuggling has been raised at a higher level.

“The fact that one of our top priorities was how to enhance capacities in the fight against illegal migration and human trafficking, through the establishment of a national agency, which is already yielding results,” added Spasovski.

He added that a number of criminal groups have already been cracked and there are daily operations for detection or uprooting of illicit migration.
