Sekerinska to take part in NATO Ministers of Defence meeting in Brussels

Defence Minister Radmila Sekerinska is taking part Wednesday and Thursday in the meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence in Brussels.

Ministers will discuss defence expenditures of NATO countries. Each country has a target of 2 percent of GDP on defence by 2024 to contribute to the Alliance’s operations.

According figures for 2019 defence spending, more Allies were reaching the goal of spending 2 percent of GDP on defence, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a press conference on Tuesday.

NATO members will also address relations with Russia, which has until August 2 to comply with INF Treaty. The meeting on Wednesday will tackle NATO’s next steps in the event Russia doesn’t comply, said Stoltenberg.

The agenda includes NATO’s first-ever space policy, as well as Afghanistan and Iran.

This is the second time DM Sekerinska takes part in such ministerial meeting, which makes North Macedonia an active participant in the Alliance.

In Brussels, Sekerinska is also set to meet with Defence Ministers of Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Norway and Poland.

In addition, Sekerinska is to take part in the Berlin Forum hosted by the German Marshall Fund, addressing a panel on innovation and new approach to security, the Defence Minister’s Office said in a press release.
