Region: Erdogan postpones visit to Serbia
The visit of the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Belgrade was postponed, Turkish embassy in Belgrade confirmed to Tanjug news agency.
The visit was planned for August 29.
Erdogan will not be visiting Serbia in August and September due to a “schedule adjustment”, the embassy explained. It was earlier announced that Erdogan and his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic would attend the start of construction Belgrade-Sarajevo highway. The road will be constructed by the Turkish company Tasyap.
On Sunday, during the opening of “Milos The Great” highway, Vucic confirmed Erdogan’s visit. He did not, however, specify the exact date, Tanjug recalled.
When asked whether the Turkish leader would attend the ceremony with regard to the Belgrade-Sarajevo highway, Vucic answered positively. “That would be logical. He (Erdogan) will come”, he concluded.
In discussion with the reporters, the Serbian head of state said that the visit will be “good, friendly”. He also labeled Erdogan as a “sincere friend”.
Vucic thanked Erdogan for the visit in advance. “We would be happy to be his hosts. We believe that together we could achieve a lot in the future”. He also thanked to Turkish investors in Serbia, expressing his hope that their number will continue to rise.
