Reeker and Hahn on an official visit to Skopje on Thursday and Friday


Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations  plans to visit Skopje on Thursday.

Commissioner Hahn will meet with President Stevo Pendarovski, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and opposition leader Hristijan Mickoski.

According to the official agenda, discussions will focus on ongoing EU-related reforms and expectations for October date for start of EU accession negotiations. Talks are also expected to tackle the new law on public prosecution which is to also regulate the future status of the Special Public Prosecution (SPO).

PM Zaev and Hahn are expected to hold a joint press conference at the Club of MPs after their meeting.

The US Acting Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Reeker will visit North Macedonia on Friday. He arrives to Skopje from Athens where he’s meeting  with Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, other new government leaders, as well as with former PM Alexis Tsipras.

In Skopje, according to the State Department, Ambassador Reeker will meet with President Pendarovski, PM Zaev, Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov, and other government leaders.

Talks will focus on bilateral issues and North Macedonia’s path to NATO and EU membership. Reeker will meet with Members of Parliament, opposition party members, and local government representatives.
