Pendarovski-Lajčák: The EU recognizes the country’s progress and will fulfill its promise


 North Macedonia highly appreciates the strong commitment and the firm support from Slovakia for country to get a date for starting accession negotiations with the EU, President Stevo Pendarovski said at Wednesday’s meeting with the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Miroslav Lajčák.

President Pendarovski said that the integrated and safe region is one of the crucial preconditions for a stable and prosperous Europe, and in that regard also welcomed the ratification of the North Macedonia’s NATO accession protocol in the Slovak Parliament, Pendarovski’s Cabinet said in a press release.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the overall bilateral relations between North Macedonia and the Slovak Republic, and expressed satisfaction with the development of the cooperation, which has a continuous positive trend in several areas of mutual interest, based on sincere friendship, mutual respect and trust.

President Pendarovski highlighted that North Macedonia in the past period has made enormous efforts to meet EU criteria. In this regard, he expressed gratitude for the support and assistance that the OSCE gives to our country in key policy areas, especially in the judiciary, legislation, the electoral process, the promotion of inter-ethnic relations and the rule of law.

Minister Lajčák congratulated Pendarovski on taking office as President, wishing him success as he assumes his new responsibilities, and expressed readiness for further deepening of the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries.
