Naskovski: Foreign centers are pushing for a boycott

The dismissed organization secretary of VMRO-DPMNE, Stevo Naskovski, said in an interview with Deutsche Welle that external centers and parallel party structures are pressuring for a boycott, and are sacrificing the strategic commitments of VMRO-DPMNE.

– VMRO-DPMNE is a party that supports a referendum aimed at resolving the name dispute, which was repeatedly announced by the previous leadership as well. How each of us will vote on a secret ballot – is their own business! VMRO-DPMNE can not support an initiative for some kind of boycott, which in no way will stop the agreement with Greece, because it should be put on a parliamentary debate with the chance to be passed in Parliament. Such an initiative (for the boycott) has support from countries with different interests from our Macedonian interest.

Our only path is NATO and the EU, we do not have another alternative. Maybe we needed a public debate about what we are getting and what we are losing with this agreement, but it has already been signed, and that’s that. Nobody offered any other solution. I am most concerned about the sustainability of the agreement, whether it is the end of the dispute, and whether there will not be new demands in the future on the Greek side – says Naskovski in the interview.

Regarding the mood of the party over the referendum, he argues that the membership wants to see Macedonia as a member of NATO and the EU.

– The mood regarding the Euro-Atlantic integration of Macedonia is at a high level. Membership of VMRO-DPMNE wants to see Macedonia as a member of NATO and as a member of the European Union. The VMRO members want their state to be in the company and alongside with the most developed and the most democratic countries in the world. But repeatedly, some outside centers, as well as our party parallel structures are pushing for the boycott, while sacrificing the strategic commitments of VMRO-DPMNE and turning the real values in that direction – says Naskovski.
