Mickoski: If the referendum turns out to be successful, VMRO-DPMNE will vote the constitutional amendments

“If the referendum turns out to be successful and the majority of people vote in favour of the new name, then VMRO-DPMNE will respect it.” This was declared by the leader of this party, Hristijan Mickoski in a televised political debate.

“If the majority of people vote in favour of the name, then the situation is clear”, said Mickoski during the TV debate.

According to him, if such thing happens, he will invite his party’s MPs to back the constitutional amendments, which need to be voted by two thirds of MPs in order for them to be ratified.

Mickoski also said that VMRO-DPMNE is in favour of the country’s integration in the NATO and EU, but against the Prespa Agreement reached in June between Athens and Skopje, designed to put an end to a contest which lasted several years concerning the issue of the country’s name. Based on the deal, the sides agreed on the new name “Republic of North Macedonia”.
