Katrougalos: Name solution not ‘tool for irredentism’

Athens, 14 January 2018 – Georgios Katrougalos, Greece’s Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, has said the possible name solution should not be a tool for irredentism, MIA reports from Athens.

“We are negotiating a name that will make a clear distinction between the historical Greek Macedonia and the country which capital is Skopje, a name that will not serve as tool for territorial ambitions against our country, a tool for irredentism,” says Katrougalos.

He adds there is optimism for the first time after a long period, but no guaranteed solution.

“The next step in the problem’s settlement is the meeting between the countries’ negotiators with UN mediator Nimetz next Wednesday,” stresses Katrougalos.
