Kaminis: Skopje and Athens can cooperate well

We will strictly limit to our role on cooperation between the two cities in order to send message that the cooperation with the City of Skopje is the best thing that we can do in these circumstances, Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis said ahead of his meeting with Skopje counterpart.

Speaking to Thema Radio 104.6, Kaminis rejected any possibility to discuss political developments and name talks with Petre Silegov.

I decided to invite him now, just to send a message that the cities can cooperate, we can exchange our experiences, we can cooperate in a many fields and to show that at least at the level of low politics we can cooperate, and I want to emphasize this, at the level of low politics, Skopje and Athens, and, respectively the two countries can peacefully coexist, Kaminis said, adding that with his Skopje counterpart they will discuss social protection, social culture, innovations.

In the interview Kaminis said that he will very soon pay a return visit and will meet Silegov in Skopje, MIA reports from Athens.

In regard to the momentum that exists for finding a solution to the name issue, Kaminis commented that the possibility should be used.

“I believe that window of opportunity is open and I believe that, as is the case with the Cyprus issue, if every window of opportunity opens, we adopt uncompromising positions, the following window is always smaller,” he said.

Silegov is due to arrive in Athens on Friday morning and to meet with Kaminis in his office at City Hall.
