Gruevski says he will resign as opposition VMRO-DPMNE leader


Opposition VMRO-DPMNE leader Nikola Gruevski said Friday that he would render his resignation before the party’s bodies, hoping that his move ‘will contribute to resolving the current political situation.’

After the completion of the first round of local poll I said that the party leader bore gratest responsible for the election results, Gruevski said in an interview with the pro-VMRO-DPMNE web portal ‘Kurir’.

‘Regardless of the outcome of the party’s analysis of the municipal election results – even if it detrmines that my contribution to the defeat is minor or non-existent – I’ll notheless render my resignation to the party’s bodies,’ Gruevski said.

Afterwords, in line with the VMRO-DPMNE statute the party will organize an extraordinary congress for election of a new leader, Gruevski said.
