Greek govt will decide on ratification process after Macedonia fulfills its commitments
According to a press release from the Greek Prime Minister’s Office, it is clear that the Greek side has not yet decided how to ratify the Greek-Macedonian Agreement.
“When the other party does its best to fulfill the commitments stemming from the Agreement, the government will make decisions regarding the ratification process collectively, always respecting the international commitments and the country’s constitution,” the press release read.
In the same announcement, the Prime Minister’s Office is attacking main Opposition head, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, accusing him of being the first opposition leader to ask for elections since the beginning of the government’s term.

The government will follow the Prespa Agreement provisions. Following the completion of the ratification by the Macedonian parliament, the Greek side has given its consent to start negotiations, which will result in an accession protocol if and only if the Constitutional Reform and the referendum in the neighbouring country are successfully completed. These procedures are due to be completed at the earliest by the end of the year.
The Greek government will then bring to the Greek Parliament both the Agreement, which will only come into force after its ratification by both sides, and the protocol of the neighbouring country’s accession to NATO, which will only be drafted when the Macedonia meets their above.
The Greek government is a two-party coalition government and operates collectively, always within the framework of the Constitution and the laws.
The government’s desire is the Agreement to resolve a problem that for years burdens our foreign policy to have the largest possible majority in the House.
When the other side fills the commitments under the Agreement, the government will make decisions on the ratification process collectively, always respecting the international commitments and the country’s constitution.
Mr Mitsotakis, who has already been recorded as the first ever opposition leader to seek elections since the very beginning of the government’s term of office -elections that will place at the end of the mandate- should better stop being so exposed.
