German Bundestag to give green light for start of EU accession talks tomorrow
Germany’s Bundestag will officially give the green light Thursday for the start of the EU accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania, Deutsche Welle reports.
Deputy PM for European Affairs Bujar Osmani will attend the session at the invitation of Bundestag President Wolfgang Schauble.
Ruling parties CDU and SPD reached agreement yesterday to endorse the start of EU accession negotiations of North Macedonia and Albania, with the Greens also expected to provide their support.
The ruling parties noted that the start of accession negotiations with both countries would send an important signal for the entire region.
SPD member Nezahat Baradari, who is also a member of the Bundestag Committee on European Union Affairs, has confirmed the pending decision.
“The fact that the coalition parties have opened the path for the start of North Macedonia and Albania’s accession negotiations is an important signal for the European integration of the entire region,” says Baradari.
The EU Council is scheduled to adopt the final decision on the start of the accession negotiations at the Summit on 15-16 October.
