On Wednesday at a ministerial council, France’s Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs presented a bill to approve the ratification of North Macedonia’s NATO accession protocol.

“The entry into force of North Macedonia’s NATO accession protocol will allow the country to become the 30th member of the Alliance, once all 29 NATO member states have notified their ratification,” reads the government’s press release.

“North Macedonia’s NATO accession will strengthen the security of the region and of the Alliance as a whole,” reads the government’s press release.

In addition, it is underlined that “France will remain particularly vigilant in respect to the key principles of the NATO enlargement process, which are an evaluation of candidate countries’ own merits and their contribution to the security of the Euro-Atlantic area.”

Following its presentation at the ministerial council, the bill enters in parliamentary procedure, where vote is required by the National Assembly and the Senate of France.
