Dimitrov: Our new foreign affairs policy aimed at solving problems has been aknowledged

Yesterday’s conclusions by the General Affairs Council in Luxembourg acknowledged our new foreign affairs policy aimed at solving problems, North Macedonia’s Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov said at the session of the National Convention on the EU.

“We’ll be satisfied when we get the decision in the fall and when we take part in organizing the first intergovernmental conference in December of this year,” said FM Dimitrov.

Meanwhile, in the two and a half months ahead, Dimitrov added, the country should focus on a task that wasn’t completed yet.

“That’s the future of the SPO, which is to be decided, through passing the two-thirds majority Law on the Public Prosecution.

“It will help eliminate any excuses by any member countries in September or October,” Dimitrov said.

Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák said he was optimistic about the EU’s opening accession negotiations in October.

The EU, according to Lajčák, wouldn’t be whole without the Western Balkans.

Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Bujar Osmani said, although the country had been hoping for more, the conclusions were positive and supportive.

“There’s no room for emotion, we have to remain reasonable and alert; this is no time for frustration,” Osmani said, adding that reforms await that would take concerted efforts by all political stakeholders to achieve the country’s strategic goals.

“It’s time to work together. The future can’t be divided into ours and yours. It belongs to everyone,” Osmani said.
