Ali Ahmeti’s party says signing the name issue agreement is a matter of days

Speaking to a Skopje TV network on Monday evening, the Albanian DUI party MP Artan Grubi said that reaching an agreement on the name dispute between Macedonia and Greece is a matter of days. Grubi is considered the closest colleague of the party’s head, Ali Ahmeti.

Grubi noted that the two governments have agreed to all elements but what still needs to be clarified is the way the deal will be implemented. He estimated that even this bit will be solved within the next days. The MP of the main Albanian party in Macedonia added that once the last details are clarified then comes the signing of the deal.

According to the politician, “the names that are still standing are those proposed by the UN envoy, Matthew Nimetz, as well as some other creative suggestions like Republic of Makedonija of Krusevo, Rebublic of Modern Makedonija and Republic of European Makedonija”.

Grubi added that the largest Albanian party of Macedonia is fully supportive of the efforts made by the government to solve the name dispute, which, as he underlined, will pave the way for the country’s NATO accession and will signal the beginning of negotiations with the EU so as to become a member state…. / IBNA
