Timing is ideal to resolve name issue, says US Ambassador to Greece

The timing is ideal for resolving the name issue between Macedonia and Greece, US Ambassador to Athens Geoffrey Pyatt said on Monday.

Following the meeting with Thessaloniki mayor Yiannis Boutaris, Pyatt said that after the change in the leadership of the neighbouring country, conditions for constructive talks are created, MIA reports.

Boutaris briefed the ambassador on his initiatives to open a communications channel with Skopje.

Pyatt and Boutaris also discussed participation of the United States as an honorary country in the 83rd Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) this year.

On the US participation in TIF, the ambassador said his country will not simply exhibit for a week in Thessaloniki, but will also promote the event in Athens.
