The number of asylum applications from North Macedonia in EU member-states has dropped significantly in March, compared to the previous months.

316 persons from North Macedonia applied for asylum in March, compared to over 600 who applied in January or February, says the European Asylum Support Service (EASO).

A large majority of the applications are rejected because North Macedonia is considered a safe country.

EU asylum seekers mainly come from Syria, Venezuela and Afghanistan, followed by Iraq, Colombia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Iran, Albania and Georgia.
